2018 Projects (TBA)

Visit our Facebook page for current updates on this year's Day of Service projects.

Volunteers can register for these projects by clicking here and completing the online registration.

All volunteers will be required to sign a Volunteer Liability Release Form. Youth under 18 are required to have a parent's signature on the Release Form.  For a copy of the form click here.  To make check-in easier, please complete the form and bring it with you. Having these filled out early will save time at registration, which is scheduled for 8:00 am for those who are pre-registered online, and 7:30 am for all others.

Volunteers will meet at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 3980 12th St. on April 28, 2018 for the kick-off event.

Here are some projects we have done in previous years:

American Red Cross

Their Mission: The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

The Project: This project consists of cleaning the Red Cross disaster trailers. This project requires 10-12 volunteers and will take approximately 2 hours if fully staffed.

By The River

Their Mission: By the River, located on Florida's Treasure Coast, is an affordable living community designed to serve the needs of seniors who live independently, yet require some assistance with activities of daily living. Offering unique life enhancing programs and assistance with finding in-home health service providers, By the River also operates in an eco-friendly, low-impact approach.

The Project: This project consists of cleaning windows for several buildings. We expect this project to need 10-15 volunteers and it should take about 3 hours if fully staffed.

Habitat For Humanity Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative

Their Mission: The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative program is a focused housing outreach program that provides a path for communities to come together to help low-income residents with needed home repairs.  NRP aims to serve more families by responding to the needs in the community.  This program desires to create new partnerships and empower residents to revive their neighborhood while enhancing quality of life.

The Project: House painting. We are planning on painting 2 houses and will need approximately 10 volunteers per house (20 volunteers total). This project, if fully staffed, is expected to take 4 hours.

Habitat ReStore

Their Mission: The ReStore provides an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep thousands of goods and reusable materials out of landfills. The profits from the sale of these items go directly to building new, affordable, energy efficient houses in Indian River County for qualified families in need.

The Project: The volunteers for this project will process donations at the warehouse, stock shelves and help the ReStore with donation deliveries and intake. This project will need about 25 volunteers and is expected to take 3-4 hours.

United Against Poverty

Their Mission: To provide a hand up for those in need, helping them to break free from poverty by offering hunger relief, crisis care, transformative education and employment training opportunities.

The Project:   This project will need about 25 volunteers and is expected to take 3-4 hours.

Hibiscus Children's Center

Their Mission: To maintain a safe shelter for children who are abused, abandoned, and neglected by providing prevention, residential, assessment, and recovery programs. Hibiscus Children’s Center also prepares our children for their future by constructing programs so that our children acquire an education, attain emotional and physical well-being, achieve career readiness, and gain independent living skills.

The Project: Landscaping/mulching. This project needs approximately 15 volunteers and should take about 2 hours if fully staffed. All volunteers for this project must be at least 18 years old.

Jungle Trail - St. John's Island

The Project: This project consists of cleaning up trash and brush along the trail. This project is expected to require 10-20 volunteers and would take about 3 hours if fully staffed.

Keep Indian River Beautiful (KIRB)

Their Mission: KIRB believes that education combined with service will bring about a behavioral change in each individual and instill the desire to affect change in the world.  As each person works toward a common goal, the result is magnified across the community or state or country. Our focus areas are waste reduction, litter prevention, beautification, conservation and education. KIRB strives to make our community more clean and beautiful.

The Project: Oslo Road Clean-up - This project will be a roadside clean-up along Oslo Road from US 1 to the river. This project is expected to require 10-20 volunteers and would take about 3 hours if fully staffed.

The Project: Oslo Cemetery - The Oslo Cemetery has burials dating back to the early 1900's and is the resting place for several Civil War veterans. The volunteers for this project will be mowing, edging, raking and picking up debris in the cemetery in an effort to preserve the cemetery and honor those who are interred there. This project is expected to take 4 hours and needs 10-15 volunteers.

The Project: Winter Beach Cemetery - General landscaping of the Winter Beach Cemetery to include mowing, raking, cutting brush and cleaning up the area. This project is expected to take 3-4 hours and needs 10 volunteers.

Florida Veggies and More

Their Mission: Florida Veggies & More was created to provide nutritious locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables to help those in need.  As more and more of our community need assistance, Florida Veggies & More partners with the Treasure Coast Food Bank and The Source in making sure that fresh fruit and vegetables are available to our community’s homeless and near homeless.

The Project: Take down pots and reset them for the next crop of veggies. This project is expected to take 3 hours and needs 10-15 volunteers. Bring gloves if you have them.
